Bridging the divide: Understanding the knowledge gap

For an assignment within my "Managing the P–12 Curriculum" course, I explored Natalie Wexler's insightful book, "The Knowledge Gap." This page showcases an infographic I created to highlight a central concept from her work and apply it to an often-overlooked area: how we support and develop our teachers.

Wexler's Argument, Applied to Educators

Natalie Wexler's The Knowledge Gap profoundly illustrates the importance of background knowledge for student success. This paper examines the Texas Superintendent Standards and what they ask of district leaders when it comes to curriculum and instruction. Using Natalie Wexler's The Knowledge Gap as a lens, I explore how the shift away from content-rich curriculum is quietly failing students. I also created an infographic connecting these ideas to my own work as an instructional leader. My infographic on this page takes a fresh look at this argument, applying its core principles to the professional development and ongoing support of teachers. Just as students benefit from a rich foundation of knowledge, so too do educators thrive when they are consistently equipped with the resources and understanding they need to excel.
